- Search for your parcel via Name, Parcel # or Address
- Link that to your account
- Click “current tax payments” on the left

Making Payments:
Payments can be made in person at the Township Hall, placed in the indoor or
outdoor LOCKED Drop Boxes at the Township Hall or by mail to PO Box 68,
Rapid City, MI 49676 or paid by credit online.
Make checks out to “Clearwater Township”; if paying cash, the exact amount
owed is required (we do not make change).
Clearwater Township does not accept credit card payments in person.

If you need to contact someone regarding your property taxes, please
email taxes@clearwatertwp.com.
The Township does not accept responsibility for funds that are left in such boxes
after hours. It is the taxpayer’s responsibility to make sure funds are received by
the Township on time.
Receipts:
Paid receipts can be obtained by including a self-addressed stamped, letter
sized, envelope with your payment.
If payment is made in person, we ask that you bring in your entire tax statement
and we will stamp the bill paid.
We have instituted this policy to reduce the cost of administrative operations expenses.
Please keep in mind that the State of Michigan and the Federal government recognize your
cancelled check and your mortgage statement as proof of payment. If you have any questions,
or concerns regarding this policy, please contact us.
Escrow Accounts:
The original tax statement is always mailed to the property owner for your
records.
Each tax cycle the mortgage holder requests the tax amount due to the township
to pay from your escrowed funds.
If we receive the mortgage holder request before we process the tax bills, it will
be noted that a copy of your tax statement has been sent to your mortgage
provider.
Due Dates
Summer Taxes:
Due beginning July 1st and payable through September 14, without penalty or
interest.
September 15th through September 30th a 1% interest will be assessed.
An additional 1% will be added to the unpaid balance on the first day of each
month until paid in full.
After February 14th a 3% late penalty will be added.
Deferment of Summer Taxes:
Summer taxes can be deferred without penalty or interest until February 16th for
principal residence of any taxpayer who meets the following requirements AND whose
household income does not exceed $40,000 per year.
62 years of age or older, including the unmarried surviving spouse of a person
who was 62 years of age or older at the time of death.
totally and permanently disabled or paraplegic, hemiplegic, or quadriplegic.
eligible service person, eligible veteran, eligible widow/widower
blind person
Applications for deferment: are available at the Township Office or by clicking the link
below. Applications must be returned by September 14th each year. The local treasurer
may require additional documentation to verify your claim.
Deferment of Property Taxes
Winter Taxes:
Due beginning December 1st and are payable through February 14, without
penalty or interest.
Delinquent Taxes:
All unpaid taxes become delinquent on March 1st. At which time all unpaid
taxes are turned over to Kalkaska County for collection and the Township will no
longer accept payments.
Payoff amounts must be obtained by calling 231-258-3310 and are only payable
to Kalkaska County Treasurer. Contact information provided through the link

Non-Sufficient Funds:
All payments returned non-sufficient will be accessed fees.
First Notice will be a fee of $30
Second Notice the fee will go up to $35
Third Notice will be from the Township Attorney and will have a notice of civil
action as allowed per Act 236 of 1961, see below.

600.2952 Failure of maker to pay amount of dishonored check, draft, or order; liability; written
demand for payment; delivery and text; effect of payment before trial; jurisdiction of action.
Sec. 2952.
(1) In addition to applicable penal sanctions, a person who makes, draws, utters, or delivers a
check, draft, or order for payment of money upon a bank or other depository, person, firm, or
corporation that refuses to honor the check, draft, or order for lack of funds or credit to pay or
because the maker has no account with the drawee is liable for the amount of the
dishonored check, draft, or order, plus a processing fee, civil damages, and costs, as
provided in this section.
(2) A payee or an agent of a payee may make a written demand for payment of a check,
draft, or order of the type specified in subsection (1), which demand may be delivered to the
maker by first-class mail.

All changes of address for property taxes need to be requested on the Change of
